Metro Manila’s mayors met on Saturday evening to discuss preparations against the more infectious COVID-19 Delta variant, according to Dano Tingcungco’s report on “24 Oras Weekend.”

This includes stricter border controls in the National Capital Region; aggressive contact tracing; and the implementation of granular lockdowns, should it be needed.

“We have also discussed certain precautions we can take,” Metropolitan Manila Development Authority chairman Benhur Abalos said.

“Just because konti lang ang kaso natin with the Delta variant, just because maganda pa naman ang ating hospital care does not mean na binabalewala natin ito,” he added.

(Just because we only have a few cases, just because our hospital care is still good, doesn’t mean we’re taking this for granted.)

Meanwhile, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said it will conduct stricter monitoring at quarantine checkpoints.

“Patuloy kaming makikipag ugnayan sa IATF at sa NTF against COVID-19 upang i-review kung anong dapat i-review at palakasin pa kung ano mga dapat pang palakasin,” PNP chief Police General Guillermo Eleazar said.

(We will continue coordinating with the IATF and NTF against COVID-19 to review and strengthen what needs to be strengthened.)
