The Department of Health on Saturday said it is confirming if one of the two reported Delta variant cases in Antique has died.

The two were tagged as case no. 34 and no. 35, according to a report by Katrina Son on GMA News’ “24 Oras Weekend.”

“We are verifying if a case from Antique had apparently died, we are getting the complete information so that we can inform the public also. The one who has allegedly died is not yet verified, so we still have two cases in our list,” said undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire in a mix of Filipino and English.

According to the Local Health Support Division of the Western Visayas Center for Health Development, Case #34 passed away on May 31.

Case no. 34 and no. 35 both had no history of travel outside the Philippines.

“Based on the event-based report by the provincial health office of Antique, case #34 died last May 31 of this year and then case #35 completed the mandatory 14-day quarantine and tagged by the RHU as recovered last June 13,” said Local Health Support Division of the Western Visayas Center for Health Development chief Dr. Ma. Sophia Pulmones.

Contact tracing efforts were continuously conducted on those who had contacts with case no. 34 and case no. 35.

Two people who tested positive for the Delta variant of COVID-19 have died, the Department of Health (DOH) reported earlier on Saturday.

One passed away after being rushed to hospital on June 28, while the other one was a crewman aboard the MV Athens.

The DOH meanwhile said 33 of the 35 Delta variant cases have fully recovered. Eleven of these were local Delta variant cases. — Jamil Santos/DVM, GMA News
