Monolith Soft – best known for the Xenoblade Chronicles series in recent years – has become one of Nintendo’s top developers. It’s also supported some key projects like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
Following on from its release of Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition on the Switch last May, it’s now reported a profit of 1.171 billion yen over the past year (fiscal period ending March 2021).
As can be seen below, it’s the highest profit for the company over the past several years and is an increase of 138.2 percent year over year. During the previous fiscal year, Monolith Soft made a profit of 491 million yen.
Earlier this year, at the beginning of March, Pyra and Mythra from Xenoblade Chronicles 2 were also added to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as a two-in-one DLC fighter – which has likely only increased interest in the Xenoblade Chronicle series.
The Japanese company recently announced a “large expansion” of staff as well – posting more than 40 job listings on its website back in April. Some positions even make reference to The Legend of Zelda series, which is expected to be tied to the development of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2.
