Monday 19 July marked ‘Freedom Day’ for many across the UK as further lockdown and COVID regulations eased and one of most important things that came from this is that full capacity weddings are back on the table.

So as some get ready for their big days, they’ll be able to have all their nearest and dearest together which means more eyes will be on the bride’s dress.

Well, we may have found a dress that is sure to catch everyone’s attention, but not for the reason you might think.

Leading wedding planning company Hitched has just launched the UK’s very first wedding dress which is made completely from face masks.

The bespoke gown which was created in partnership with television and film costume designer Tom Silverwood is constructed with 1,500 sanitary masks and surprisingly the dress actually looks quite chic.

Tom cleverly used the multiple masks to create dramatic puff sleeves and a cascading skirt, but there is a deeper meaning behind the creation.

Due to the Coronavirus pandemic it has been reported that more than 100 million single-use surgical masks are thrown away each week.

With the rules surrounding where to wear face masks having changed, sadly more will go to a landfill so Hitched decided to make them useful and conjure up this genius dress to represent the issue and also how far we have come.

Editor of Hitched, Sarah Allard commented: “We cannot ignore the waste problem that has been created as a result of the pandemic and now that the guidance on masks at weddings has finally changed, we wanted to create a garment that not only symbolised how far we’ve come both as a united industry and as a nation, but also puts those unused masks to good use!”

Sadly the dress isn’t available to buy, we know, we’re gutted too, but there are plenty of luxe wedding dresses out there so you can copy the look in actual fabric if you wish too.
