The Masters of the Universe: Revelation Voice Cast is Star-Studded
Fans of the original He-Man and the Masters of the Universe animated series (which aired 130 episodes between 1983 and 1985) are in for a treat. Filmmaker Kevin Smith (best known for his work on movies like Clerks, Mallrats, and Chasing Amy, but also a comic writer and podcaster and many other jobs) is back with a new Netflix series, Masters of the Universe: Revelation, which serves as a direct sequel to that original series. However, the animation is updated, and the voice cast is hand-picked with a mix of favorites.
That mix includes a host of names that fans of the genre will certainly recognize from elsewhere. We’re talking names from Star Wars, Game of Thrones, Buffy The Vampire Slayer and more. There are even some old Kevin Smith friends who found natural roles within all the action and adventure of the series’ plot.
While the show is a little tricky—but not impossible—to follow for those who haven’t seen the original cartoon, the excellent performances and perfect casting of the voice cast make the show a thrill to watch for the full duration of its run. The show is set for a 10-episode run, only the first half of which have been released at this point. The series has a number of twists and turns, with a blood-pumping score and exciting action to match. But the dialogue is certainly elevated by Smith having picked a home run cast.
So, without further ado, here are all the voices you recognized (and maybe even some that you didn’t) in Netflix’s Masters of the Universe: Revelations.
1
Chris Wood as Prince Adam / He-Man
Wood has a key role in Masters of the Universe: Revelation, voicing the franchise’s most iconic character: Prince Adam/He-Man himself. By the power of Grayskull! Wood is best known otherwise for his roles on The Vampire Diaries and Supergirl, where he met his wife, Melissa Benoist. He’s also been a strong advocate for ending the stigma against mental illness, and sits on the board of directors for Mental Health America.
2
Mark Hamill as Skeletor
You may have heard of this guy before. Hamill is now, forever, and always best known for playing Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars world, but he’s also an extremely talented (and prolific) voice actor. Hamill has been voicing the Joker across various mediums since 1992 (starting with Batman: The Animated Series) and taps into that energy a bit to play Masters of the Universe’s big bad, Skeletor. He’s also lended his voice to some of our other favorite animated series, including Avatar: The Last Airbender and Invincible.
3
Liam Cunningham as Man-At-Arms
You know Cunningham best for his unforgettable role as Ser Davos in Game of Thrones. In Masters of the Universe: Revelation, he plays a similar role: a protector to Adam and Teela’s family—a Knight and weapons master of sorts—who goes on quite the journey in Revelation.
4
Sarah Michelle Gellar as Teela
Gellar is another one who’s probably now, forever, and always going to be associated with one role: Buffy the Vampire Slayer from the titular iconic series. And in Masters of the Universe: Revelation, she returns to her badass bonafides, as perhaps the show’s primary ass-kicker.
5
Lena Headey as Evil-Lyn
It’s a big July for Ms. Headey on Netflix, as earlier in the month she also starred in an ass-kicking role in the streamer’s new action flick Gunpowder Milkshake. Here, she plays Evil-Lyn, Skeletor’s second in command who takes on a slightly different role in Masters of the Universe: Revelation. You’ve seen her before, of course, as Cersei Lannister in Game of Thrones, but also in 300, The Purge, and the underrated The Sarah Connor Chronicles.
6
Justin Long as Roboto
You probably remember Justin Long for a series of charming comedy roles that he had in the mid-late 2000s, including in Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story, Waiting…, and Accepted, while he even made his way into some action movies like Live Free or Die Hard. His character here, Roboto, is a robot (built by Man-At-Arms) who has the capacity to feel human emotions.
7
Stephen Root as Cringer/Battle Cat
Cringer—who becomes the mighty Battle Cat when Prince Adam transforms into He-Man—is the loyal steed (and fighter) to Adam. Here, he’s voiced by one of the best and most reliable characters actors we have, Stephen Root. Where do we even start with him? Perhaps his most famous role came in Office Space, where he played poor Milton who just wanted his stapler. More recently, he’s seen major accolades for his roles in HBO hits Barry (where he plays the handler to Bill Hader’s hitman) and Perry Mason (where he plays a District Attorney).
8
Diedrich Bader as King Randor and Trap Jaw
Bader’s primary role here is as King Randor, the unknowing father to both Prince Adam and Teela. He’s not only a great voice actor (having recently lent his voice to the hilarious Harley Quinn cartoon as Bruce Wayne/Batman) but a hilarious comedic actor as well, with roles in Office Space, The Drew Carey Show, and currently in American Housewife.
9
Alicia Silverstone as Queen Marlena
Queen Marlena is the mother to Adam and Teela, but her voice is one of the most iconic on the whole list—Cher Horowitz from Clueless herself, Alicia Silverstone. Silverstone had a key role in last year’s surprise hit The Baby Sitter’s Club on Netflix, and also played Batgirl in the much-maligned 90s superhero flick Batman and Robin. No matter, though, she’s an icon.
10
Griffin Newman as Orko
Newman, who here plays the magical Orko, might be best known these days for his gig as the co-host of the Blank Check podcast, where he and Atlantic critic David Sims discuss film. He also played one of the leads in Amazon Prime’s The Tick series, and had a small role in the wildly underrated HBO show Vinyl. On the voice acting front, he was part of the cast of Our Cartoon President on Showtime, which ran from 2018 to 2020.
11
Kevin Michael Richardson as Beast Man
You may not know Richardson by name, or recognize his face, but his voice is one that you’ve probably been hearing in your favorite animated shows and movies for years. For Invincible fans, you almost certainly recognize those deep tones as the same ones that both Mauler Twins possess. He’s also done key voices in Lilo and Stitch and Teen Titans. Here, he plays Beast Man, an ostensible villain in the series (a Skeletor loyalist, historically) but someone who particularly just feels loyal to Evil-Lyn.
12
Jason Mewes as Stinkor
Masters of the Universe: Revelation is a Kevin Smith project, so it’s only natural that Jason Mewes would have a role, right? The two are Jay and Silent Bob, and are real-life best friends, right? Smith and Mewes have been appearing as the pair ever since 1994’s Clerks (and as recently as 2019’s Jay and Silent Bob Reboot). Here, Mewes plays Stinkor, who’s basically an evil Master of the Universe (and kind of a skunk?) who just makes things smell really bad.
13
Kevin Conroy as Mer-Man
Conroy is most famous for his work through the years as the voice artist for Bruce Wayne/Batman, starting in 1992 with Batman: The Animated Series. Here he voices Mer-Man, one of the Masters of the Universe who rules Eternia’s underwater kingdom.
14
Tony Todd as Scare Glow
Scare Glow is basically a creepy, floating version of characters who are believed to be dead. That creepiness plays a huge part, so it makes perfect sense that he’s voiced by Tony Todd—the man best known as Candyman in the Candyman series.
