Cara De La Hoyde won the second series of Love Island with now-husband Nathan Massey while her mum Debbie De La Hoyde, 56, watched at home in Kent.
She and Rosie William’s mum know how parents may be feeling this year as they watch their beloved children take part in the popular ITV dating show.
Having watched Cara fall in love with Nathan, she certainly knows how the parents of Liberty Poole feel as her connection grows stronger with Jake Cornish.
Here Debbie explains how it feels to be watching it all happen without being able to communicate…
“Cara has always been strong-minded – she’s never really gone for the norm. When she was eight, we had a meeting with a priest ahead of her baptism and he asked Cara what she wanted to be when she was older and she replied, ‘I’d like to be a lap dancer’.”

“She is a complete extrovert, so friends would always tell me she’d be on TV one day. Cara didn’t ask for my advice about going on Love Island, she just told me what was happening and that was that.
“My plan was to just watch the first episode and then leave her to it, but I got hooked. Even my eighty-something dad ended up loving the show.”
She continued: “I felt like I learnt new things about my daughter. I loved seeing her so relaxed – just munching crisps and staying out of the drama, or when she accidentally passed wind while having a serious chat. That’s my Cara!
“I even got to watch her meet her future husband. Initially, Essex carpenter Nathan didn’t seem like her usual type, Cara usually goes for tall, dark and handsome, but importantly, he made her laugh with his cheeky nature.”

Cara’s mum went on: “Admittedly, I didn’t think it would last long when they left the show, but they’ve proved me wrong – they’re now married with two gorgeous children, three-year-old Freddie and baby Delilah.
“When the scenes were shown of Cara having sex on TV that’s when I would get up and make myself a cup of tea. It didn’t really bother me – I was proud of the woman she was and how she was coming across.

“One thing that did disappoint me, though, was the fact she was smoking. She’s never been a smoker, but she was doing it all the time. When I went to visit the villa ahead of the final, I did understand why she was smoking. There’s nothing else to do. Also, the place is much smaller than it looks on TV.
“Luckily, Cara knocked the smoking on the head when she left. She was so happy there, which is more than I can say about my visit. I was worried about the camera making me look bigger!
Debbie loved watching the nation get to know her daughter
“Nathan’s parents threw a party for the finale and all his friends were there, including Tommy Mallet from The Only Way Is Essex. It was funny to meet all these people because of my daughter.
“Watching Cara win was just amazing. I was jumping up and down and drinking champagne. It meant so much to me that the UK had taken my beloved daughter into their hearts.”
