Jordan Peele Just Announced His Next Movie, Nope, and People Are Thinking Aliens
Jordan Peele has announced the title of his next film. Do we know much else? Nope!
The Key & Peele comedian has quickly made a name for himself as one of the boldest filmmakers in Hollywood following his directorial debut, Get Out, in 2017. In case you somehow missed the Oscar-winning horror film—Peele took home the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay—Get Out follows Chris (Daniel Kaluuya) on his first trip to meet the parents of his white girlfriend, Rose (Allison Williams). However, the weekend trip quickly shifts from mundane to terrifying when…well, we won’t spoil it for you.
Peele’s 2019 sophomore venture, Us, was filled with the same level of detail and symbolism that makes his work so special, but craft isn’t all he’s known for. With Us, Peele proved himself to be a master of suspense off the page as well, managing to disseminate the smallest, most exciting bits of information about the movie without giving anything away before its premiere.
Now it looks like Jordan Peele is planning to do the same thing with his newest film, Nope, which was announced on July 22. Here’s everything we know:
Well, it’s called Nope, and there is a poster. If this were anyone else, we might think the film was going to be about some sort of cloud monster. However, considering the only information we were given about Us for quite some time was an image of a gold pair of scissors, we’re sure it’s much deeper than that.
The premiere date. Unfortunately, we’ve still got a long way to go. Nope is set to hit theaters exactly one year from today, on July 22, 2022. Unlike many films to debut during the pandemic, Nope will not be released simultaneously on any streaming service…which makes sense, given that some of the movie was shot with IMAX cameras.
The cast. Daniel Kaluuya will be working with Peele once again! Joining the actor this time around will be Hustlers star Keke Palmer and The Walking Dead‘s Steven Yuen. “#NopeMovie 7.22.22 — I know y’all see the IMAX 😏,” Palmer wrote on Instagram.
A lot of people are guessing aliens. Though we likely won’t know the plot for quite some time, many on Twitter are pretty sure extraterrestrials are involved.
Though many are just excited/freaked out/happy to be along for the ride!
