Celebrities and UFC Stars React to Conor McGregor’s Broken Leg at UFC 264

Notorious and polarizing MMA fighter Conor McGregor broke his leg during the first round of UFC 264 on July 10—and the gruesome injury sure has people talking about the controversial star, karma, and the fighter’s future in the sport.

As Round 1 of the much-publicized main event closed, McGregor stepped back awkwardly on his ankle, which doctors and commentators suggest was already weakened by previous booming leg kicks. McGregor’s leg appeared to snap, leaving the Irish fighter unable to stand due to the serious injury. As a result, UFC doctors called an end to the fight, awarding McGregor’s opponent Dustin Poirier a TKO victory. Poirier’s victory gave him a 2-1 edge in the duo’s series.

In reaction to his victory—and McGregor’s notorious trash talk and anger over the forced stoppage—Poirier said in a post-game interview, “Karma’s not a bitch, she’s a mirror… I beat the guy.”

Reactions to McGregor’s injury were varied among MMA stars and fighting fans, with some questioning whether the break could be career-ending. Though stars wished McGregor a speedy recovery, many took the opportunity to denounce his approach to the sport while uplifting Poirier’s sportsmanship. Take a look at some of the reactions to McGregor’s injury below.
